Why join BVNA Council? Hear from Nikki McLeod RVN, current BVNA Honorary Secretary

Being on BVNA Council has, quite literally, been life changing for me. The life skills that being on Council has given me are tenfold.
BVNA Council has taught me so much about having confidence in public speaking. I had never partaken in public speaking before I started, and now I am a confident lecture giver and public speaker out on the lecture circuit, speaking at BVNA Congress, BSAVA, BVA Live and many online. Being able to pass on the skills I have gained through my own studies to other veterinary nurses came about because of Council. I would never have had the belief in myself to give lectures and now I thoroughly enjoy the buzz of public speaking and seeing nurses gaining knowledge from me. I have even started my own podcast thanks to being on BVNA Council!
Through working with BVNA Council, I have had insight into and contributed to BVNA’s work surrounding VSA Reform and the CMA investigation. Being the voice of veterinary nursing is so important to BVNA. There is so much work that goes on behind the scenes by BVNA for the representation of veterinary nurses. I am so proud to see BVNA as a major stakeholder in these vital progressions of the profession.
I have been so lucky to attend lobbying events in Belfast and Edinburgh on behalf of BVNA, spreading the word of the work we do and representing the association and veterinary nurses. I have attended meetings in London many times now, as a BVNA representative – never would I have thought I would attend Westminster, representing the veterinary nursing profession!
I have had great experience of chairing lectures in person and online for BVNA. Making connections, spreading the word, sharing knowledge, educating the professions.
And the friends that I’ve met during my time on Council; one of the biggest bonuses! BVNA Council attracts the most amazing people; passionate, knowledgeable, forward-thinking. People I know will be life-long friends.
So that was all about me – what about YOU? Could you be one of the next BVNA Council members? Could you commit to time and effort and help make BVNA continue to be THE voice of veterinary nursing? Could you see yourself improving and learning and having opportunities you never thought you would have? Could you?
YOU COULD!
BVNA has had the opportunity to sit at the table alongside many other major stakeholders of the veterinary profession. Why not pull up a chair with us?
