ABSTRACT: First time hen keepers can be bewildered by the mass of sometimes conflicting information available to them. Hens are not difficult to look after, and once their basic needs are met they need little in the way of daily care.This article covers all the basic information anyone will need to keep hens successfully.

Gaynor started working in practice in 1976 and qualified as a VN in January 1986. She worked in small animal practice in London for 32 years (20 as Head Nurse) before moving to Devon in 2008. Gaynor joined the British Hen Welfare Trust as a volunteer and became Head of Operations in 2012.
