Demystifying Ophthalmology – Tips for nursing ophthalmic patients – Wednesday, January 27, 2021, 20:00

Audrey Chanoit, MVDr, MRCVS, FHAE, MSc Microsurgery, CES Ophthalmology, RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Ophthalmology

Audrey presented a great evening of ophthalmic CPD, covering essential handling and medication techniques for our ophthalmic patients. Audrey explained how anatomical defects in certain breeds of dog and cat can cause damage to their eyes. It was interesting to hear how these cases are managed. Audrey engaged with attendees with regular interactive questions about the case images on the slides, which enabled the nurses to demonstrate their knowledge.

Overall attendees came away feeling more confident with handling an ophthalmic case both physically and medically.

Demystifying Ophthalmology – Medical and surgical ophthalmology nursing – Wednesday, February 10, 2021, 19:00

Audrey Chanoit, MVDr, MRCVS, FHAE, MSc Microsurgery, CES Ophthalmology, RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Veterinary Ophthalmology

Once again, Audrey presented a great evening of ophthalmic CPD. This time nurses were asked to identify patients with painful eye conditions and were given information about how to treat them. There was a discussion on triaging these patients over the telephone and how to manage these patients post operatively.

Audrey’s regular interaction with attendees allowed for an interactive discussion on how different practices manage certain ophthalmic cases, and towards the end of the event, some fun facts about the crazy world of chameleon eyes!

Dr. Stephen Barabas of K Laser UK LTD and VBS Direct, presented the webinar titled, ‘Laser therapy as an essential tool for modern vet nurse clinics Science, clinical results and setting up a successful laser clinic in vet nurse practice’. The event was kindly sponsored by VBS Direct.

It was a comprehensive insight to the purpose of laser therapy, what it is and how it works, the evidence supporting it and how it can be utilised into nursing clinics and our patients. As a veterinary surgeon, it was refreshing the emphasis Stephen placed on advocating the value of veterinary nursing clinics and the role of the veterinary nurse in promoting and utilising laser therapy.

There was an excellent attendance to this event with incredibly positive feedback. Most delegates commented that they found the content and delivery of the webinar excellent, that they were more confident in utilising laser therapy in their patients and found the evidence presented as a useful tool to promote laser therapy. Delegates were reminded that a second webinar presented by Stephen titled, ‘How to set up and operate multi-modal pain and MSK rehab clinics within vet practice’ would be delivered on March 10, 2021.
