Abstract: In spring, as in previous years, the Vet Nurse of the Year nomination posters arrived in practice to be displayed. The award would be presented at the Association of Veterinary Surgeons Practising in Northern Ireland (AVSPNI) spring conference. I always find AVSPNI a good place to meet colleagues
who I‘ve not been in contact with in a while or rarely see, and the lectures are outstanding and entertaining. Never in a million years did I expect that my name would be called out; it was a
complete shock.
So often, in practice, we focus on the complaints about where we’ve gone wrong and can feel uncomfortable showing the slightest bit of emotion, especially when it comes to praise for a job well done. The rude and irritated client becomes our focus and drags us down yet, for the most part, our clients are happy with how the care of their pets has been delivered. They may not send a card or give us a box of biscuits every time, but they do appreciate our work.
