Great news, we are revamping the VNJ with regards to your feedback.

As we approach the beginning of a new year, look out for the revamped VNJ. We have listened to your feedback and have implemented some changes. Check out the new sections to be included such as health matters, career pathways, photos of patients and opinion pieces.

There will be more variety in the informal articles such as; opinion pieces, career pathways and memorial paragraphs to remember people from veterinary industry who may have passed away.

The academic sections will include articles such as clinical, case studies, educational, research, knowledge summaries and health matters.

The entertainment section will have photos of your special patients, opportunities to say “thank you” to someone who has helped you or a client along with competitions and quizzes.

The information section will let you know how the Council members are representing you, check the progress of VN Futures, see news from the RCVS, and list CPD events that are available to you. Companies will keep you informed of new products via infomercials.

Table 1 has the full list of types of articles that you can send in.

Mindful of our environment; the paper used will have less processing, which will give a different look and feel than past copies. The plastic cover will be replaced by a paper envelope and you will have the opportunity to choose whether you have an online flipbook version or a printed version. Our new online flipbook VNJ will allow you to download it so you can check it out at any time, anywhere, this will also reduce the amount of paper we use. To enhance the online version, we will ask authors to consider submitting supplementary content such as videos or links to websites for further information.

To fit all this content in, we will increase the number of pages in each issue and publish every other month to give you time to get through all the articles and activities. Your issues for 2022 will be arriving in February, April, June, August, October and December.

As always, we cannot publish the VNJ without your input. Please consider writing for us, we can offer mentors to help you get started and throughout the whole process until publication. We will continue to use a double-blind peer review system for formal articles but will simplify the submission process. Visit the BVNA website to download the template for your type of content and send it to: vnj@bvna. co.uk If you have any questions or not sure how to get started, email either vnj@bvna.co.uk or nicola@bvna.co.uk

Table 2 shows aspirational topics to be included in each issue which may give you some ideas of what to write about; but remember, we are not restricted to these topics. The full list for the whole year is on the VNJ Forum on the BVNA website.

You will receive £100 for each article that is published (around 2000 words). You could earn up to £50 for informal content (500-1500 words).

We are looking forward to keeping you entertained and informed next year and will be asking for your feedback on the new format. Send us your ideas and comments, keep in touch, we cannot do this without you.
