Once you have made your decision, you should make it clear to your employer that you are formally resigning. Threatening to leave or saying you are looking for another job is not the same as resigning formally. But saying ‘I quit!’ in the heat of an argument with your employer may be taken as a proper resignation, so be careful what you say.
