On the 1st December 2014 (subject to final approval of the government) the new Parental Leave will apply to any child whose expected week of childbirth begins on or after the 5th April 2015 and any child who is placed for adoption on or after the same date.

This is to help increase the options available to parents for managing childcare arrangements during the year after childbirth or adoption; it will give parents the right to share up to 50 weeks of shared parental leave.
