BVNA Educational Bursary 2024

A bursary fund of £500, from BVNA may be awarded each year to BVNA MEMBERS who are, at the time of application, engaged in Veterinary Nursing or Veterinary Nurse Training in the United Kingdom. They are intended to assist student Veterinary Nurses and Registered Veterinary Nurses in training or furthering their veterinary nursing education and are put towards course fees only.

Applicants must have been a member of the BVNA for at least 3 months prior to the closing date.

Louise O’Dwyer Life-Long Learner Bursary 2024

The BVNA Life-long Learner Bursary was set up in memory of Louise O’Dwyer whose passion centred around the continuous enhancement of the veterinary nursing profession.
The BVNA will support registered veterinary nurses (RVN) by contributing up to 50% of a course fee, up to the value of £2,000. For example, a total course fee of £3,500 would attract a bursary of £1,750. One bursary fund will be available each year.

Bursary Criteria:
• Applicants must be an RVN
• Applicants must have been a member of the BVNA for at least 3 months prior to the closing date of 30 June 2024.
• The course identified by the applicant, must be an accredited course that leads to a specific qualification from an awarding body/organisation. The application includes a brief outline of the purpose for which the bursary is required. The course should be described e.g., part-time, full time, modular, residential, etc., state the venue, the date, the name of the course organiser and itemise course fees.
• It is anticipated that the course will start in 2025.
• The applicant must complete a 500–1000-word report to explain why they want to attend their proposed course, how they imagine that the skills and knowledge they learn will enhance their nursing practice and what support they will receive to complete the qualification.

Nick Taylor Student Bursary 2024

A bursary offering Student Veterinary Nurses the chance to attend BVNA Congress 2024, due to take place on 11-13 October at Telford International Centre.

Nick Taylor embarked on VN career in 1985, qualifying in 1988 and working predominantly in small animal and mixed practices and hospitals for 18 years. From 2002 he retrained as a Diagnostic Radiographer and worked for the NHS for a further 18 years before returning to a Veterinary Referral centre as a Referral Radiographer in 2020.

Nick wants to encourage SVN’s to attend BVNA Congress for the wide range of lectures and workshops, to network with colleagues and trade stands, to catch up with friends and inspire future training and career options.

• A bursary fund of between £100-£150 per year
• The bursary may be awarded to BVNA STUDENT MEMBERS who are, at the time of application, engaged in Veterinary Nurse Training in the United Kingdom.
• The bursary is to give a Student Veterinary Nurse the opportunity of attending BVNA Congress for at least one day and help towards travelling expenses.

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust Degree Bursary 2024

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust Veterinary Nursing Degree Bursary is intended to help towards the costs associated with Degree training. These costs may be course fees or other costs of an educational nature, such as associated travelling, accommodation, and subsistence expenses. The bursary provides a fund of £3,000 for a Degree student, which will be distributed in equal instalments over a 3-year period.

Eligibility:
Degree Students – Undergraduate students who are enrolled at a University or College and are undertaking a Veterinary Nursing Degree Programme. Furthermore, applicants must also be enrolled with the relevant awarding body as student veterinary nurses and be undertaking training courses leading to registration as a RVN. Applicants must be BVNA Members. The 2024 bursary is for costs that would be incurred within the 3-year period up to 31 August 2026. The award must only be used for the training outlined in the application. Bursary holders must give an undertaking to this effect and will be obliged to inform the BVNA if the training programme is altered, or other circumstances prevent the training being taken up during the specified period.

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust Bursary 2024

The Kennel Club Charitable Trust has provided a fund of £3,000 for Students and for RVNs. Individual bursaries are likely to range between £500 and £1,000. These Bursaries are intended to help towards the costs associated with veterinary nursing training and CPD. These costs may be course fees or other costs of an educational nature, associated travelling, accommodation and subsistence expenses.

Student Veterinary Nurses who are enrolled under the RCVS Veterinary Nursing Diploma/Degree/Apprenticeship and are undertaking training courses leading to becoming an RVN are eligible to apply for a bursary towards the costs of their training. Registered Veterinary Nurses whose names are on the Register maintained by the RCVS are eligible to apply for a bursary towards the cost of CPD courses or projects in relation to small animals. These bursaries are intended for student veterinary nurses or registered veterinary nurses who are working within a Veterinary Practice, which is primarily a small animal practice. Any recipients of the bursary must continue working within a practice environment for at least two years. If any recipient ceases to work within this field during this period then the monies paid to them must be reimbursed in full.
