RCVS Knowledge are working on an antimicrobial stewardship project, and they need your help!

They are building a companion animal and equine education platform which will focus on targeting responsible antimicrobial use in practice, providing accessible CPD content, podcasts, discussion panels and case examples. The content will cover clinical presentations and diagnostics, along with communication and behaviour techniques.

Want to get involved?

RCVS Knowledge are looking for nurses to create a 10-15 minute presentation about one of these areas which highlights how important veterinary nurses are in our fight against AMR.

  • Helping owners to administer medications/tablets (encouraging people to move away from long-acting antibiotic injections)
  • Pre and post-op management
  • Infection prevention and control in the veterinary practice
  • Diagnostics (what nurses can and can’t do, including audits) [they do have a cytology section covering sample collection, preparation, and interpretation]
  • Wound management
  • Education within the practice (colleagues)
  • Education of owners (including wound management)

What’s in it for you?

This is a veterinary sector wide initiative, with collaborative input from organisations such as RUMA, NOAH, VMD, BVA, BEVA to name but a few, along with university and veterinary practice group representatives. This project already has a lot of support within the industry and that support can carry a fair weight. As the material will be free to access to all veterinary teams, your content will be viewed and valued by a very wide audience. You will also be joining us in our fight against antimicrobial resistance, playing a pivotal role in sharing your knowledge and educating veterinary teams. We are very happy for you to repurpose any existing material you may have.

If you are keen to be involved, please email; amy@rcvsknowledge.org. Thank you!
