In this new series championing nurses who have made a huge contribution to veterinary nursing, Junior Vice President, Charlotte Pace, interviews ‘Inspirational Nurses’.

Nicholas Taylor started his journey in 1985 as a trainee veterinary nurse studying on block release at Bicton College of Agriculture, qualifying in 1988 and later returning to Bicton for a 3 month large animal nursing course. He worked in small and mixed practices and hospitals until 2003 and from 1996 was involved with the BVNA as a council member and officer, becoming President in 1999-2000.

In 2002, he retrained as a Diagnostic radiographer, (keeping his VN status active in a non practising role), getting his BSc(Hons) Diag Rad in 2005 and a job in the radiology department at a local NHS general hospital. In Sept 2020, he left the NHS to work as a Referral Radiographer at a local veterinary referral centre which had just purchased an MRI scanner. He still works for the NHS as an MRI Radiographer at weekends.

Nick enjoys pushing himself to do and try new things and in 2010, he gained an additional BSc and MSc from the Open University, a process which started in 1996. In his alleged spare time, he has been involved with the Territorial Army Royal Army Medical Corps, Round Table, photographic clubs, enjoys time with family, and learning to play the Tuba with the local town band.
