Claire is a relentless advocate for the role of the veterinary nurse in practice. In 2012, Claire founded Synergy CPD; one of the first in house CPD companies in the UK aimed to provide interprofessional CPD with whole teams.

She is a previously elected member of the RCVS VN Council and has worked in several senior nursing roles supporting nurse leaders to be successful, providing operational nursing leadership across a large employer group. Responsible for delivering an overarching nursing strategy, successfully leading projects to deliver company objectives which elevate the role of the veterinary nurse.

Synopsis:

The role of the veterinary nurse is ever evolving, when we look at any patient journey there are points along that journey where the most appropriate person to see in the practice is a veterinary nurse.

In modern day practice there are multiple opportunities where the introduction of nursing services can not only elevate the role of the nurse but also significantly contribute to the delivery of exceptional patient and client care. This enables the team to work smarter and more efficiently, whilst utilisation of nursing skills and knowledge can contribute to job satisfaction, staff retention and the financial health of the business.

In this session we will look at how you as nurses can identify where the opportunities are in your individual practices to introduce or develop nursing services. We will discuss how thinking holistically can ensure that your efforts are focussed in the right area to benefit the pet, client, practice, team, and individuals. Collating your ideas and findings into a business case for review by the senior leadership team will enable you to plan the project to launch as an initial pilot that is reviewed and refined as required.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand how to identify where the opportunities are in your individual practice to introduce and/or develop a new or existing nursing service
  2. Understand how to utilise the “Seven S” model to help you think holistically about the resources required to drive the change needed to introduce a new service
  3. Learn how to present your idea as a business case for review by your senior leadership team including creating a project plan
