Yesterday, on Wednesday 15th October 2025, the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) released a provisional decision following its market investigation into veterinary services for household pets.

BVNA has been actively involved as one of the main parties and has responded to requests for information and attended meetings with the CMA to represent our members views. The report includes measures for owners covering the provision of better information on prices, treatments, medicines, ownership, and pet healthcare plans, a price cap on written prescriptions, and a new comprehensive price comparison website.

As the UK’s professional representative body for veterinary nursing, and one of the main parties which has engaged with the CMA throughout its investigation, The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) are currently considering the documents and will be looking to make a formal response. We are also due to attend a face to face hearing with the CMA at the end of November, where we will take our opportunity to reinforce any concerns that we may have.
