Global cat welfare charity International Cat Care (iCatCare) invites cat professionals and enthusiasts from around the world to join them in celebrating our feline friends this International Cat Day.

As co-ordinators of this special day, which takes place annually on 8 August, iCatCare encourages anyone with an appreciation for cats, including cat owners, veterinary professionals and people who work with cats, to take a moment to celebrate the species and the unique bonds we share with them.

With an estimated 600 million cats worldwide, both owned and unowned, the theme ‘Celebrating Cats’ invites cat advocates to come together and share their love for cats – fostering a sense of community and shared passion for championing their welfare.

Leading up to International Cat Day, the charity will be sharing ideas for ways organisations and individuals can get involved in the campaign, across their website (https://icatcare.org/international-cat-day/) and social media channels (@icatcare), including:

  • Sharing photos or videos of how you’re celebrating cats for International Cat Day, using the #InternationalCatDay #CelebrateCats and tagging @icatcare
  • Highlighting how you celebrate cats within your workplace. For example, veterinary clinics that have achieved Cat Friendly Clinic status or how those working with unowned cats are able to improve the lives of cats in their care
  • Wearing the colour pink or something cat-themed to work to show your colleagues and clients that you’re supporting International Cat Day and celebrating cats everywhere
  • Making a donation or organising a fundraiser for your favourite cat welfare charity, such as iCatCare, and encouraging colleagues, family and friends to do the same

Nicola Martin, iCatCare CEO, said:

‘On International Cat Day we will be taking a moment to reflect on how our work ‘celebrates cats’ – from our accredited Cat Friendly Clinics which put cats’ unique needs first when they visit the vet, to our Cat Friendly Homing programme (supported by Battersea) which revolutionises the way the homing sector works to improve the welfare of unowned cats.

I will be encouraging my colleagues to join in with the fun activities we have planned, as well as thanking all the wonderful people who dedicate their time to improving the lives of cats around the world. We’d also like to celebrate our supporters, partners and sponsors who provide us with the funds we need to share our knowledge and expertise to create a cat friendly world.’
