Excitingly, #BVNAThisIsUs2020, our online event, is just around the corner! Over the weekend of the 9th to the 11th of October, we will be celebrating the veterinary nursing profession and the BVNA with you and the wider veterinary community.

As we are unable to run our annual congress this October in Telford due to COVID-19, we have designed something very different – a 3 day online event focusing on who we are as veterinary nurses and celebrating our profession, because we believe it’s important to give veterinary nurses something to look forward to in these challenging times.

We have created an inspiring, educational and fun event, full of activities.

You can register for this unmissable event here!

What’s On?

Over three days you can pick and choose the sessions from wherever you are and take breaks whenever you want while listening to our keynote and special guest speakers, get involved with debates, virtually attend workshops and participate in interactive live sessions. Another great thing about hosting an online event is that it’ll also be recorded for you to watch On Demand! Check out the timetable here.

Our very own BVNA President Jo Hinde is hosting the event and between sessions she will be sharing announcements, running competitions and generally keeping us all informed and entertained. We are proud to announce that Dr Jane Goodall is presenting a keynote speech at the BVNA Awards Evening on Saturday at 6.30pm. More of our incredible keynote speakers across the weekend include RVNs Nicola Ackerman, Katie Ford, and Racheal Marshall and guest keynote speaker, Claire Lomas.

The Debates – Have your say!

The Fringe panel will debate on topics like “The Link Between Animal Abuse & Domestic Violence” and “The Medical and Behavioural Consequence of Canine Neutering”.

There are also 9 Open Forums with VN Futures discussing ‘The Art of Delegation’ and ‘Taking Charge of our Future Together’.

Interactive Sessions

These live interactive sessions are designed for you to learn and then discuss with your peers in virtual break-out rooms.

The sessions include:

  • Robust Resilience
  • Pain Scoring & Monitoring
  • Dental Charting
  • Nursing Management of Rabbits
  • Leading and implementing change in practice
  • Equine Surgical Case Studies

Social Events and Awards Evening

We are still running our famous BVNA Congress-style social events over the weekend! There is a pub quiz on the Friday night where we will fundraise for the Rabbit Welfare Association & Funds, and also the Awards Evening on Saturday night! Our awards evening has 3 BVNA awards, the Blue Cross award, and 3 awards from Hills. The BVNA awards are

  • VNJ Writer of the Year Award – This award is for articles which have encouraged positive change, discussions or improved clinical standards in practice. Whose article inspired you?
  • St Francis Award – This award is for a nurse who has gone above and beyond for their team, for their patients or for our profession over the past 12 months.
  • Help in the Community Award – This award is for nurses who have gone above and beyond to help animal owners and/or their clinical teams during the Covid-19 pandemic.

You can see more about the awards and how to nominate someone here.
