BVNA appoints new Head of Policy and Public Affairs to further strengthen its role as the Voice of Veterinary Nursing

The British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) has this week appointed Charlotte Bullard as its Head of Policy and Public Affairs, who will be responsible for ensuring the association continues to enhance its role of providing a strong and effective voice for the UK veterinary nursing profession.
In recent months, BVNA has brought the perspectives of its members to a series of national level discussions, such as the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) investigation of veterinary services for household pets, and work towards potential reform of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 led by the UK Government. BVNA established this new role within its staff team in a commitment to continue to grow the association’s advocacy and representation activities.
Charlotte takes up the position with over six years of experience at BVNA, undertaking several roles, and after more than ten years working within the veterinary industry. Her career was initially shaped by veterinary nursing education, previously holding the position of Programme Manager for an equine veterinary nursing training provider, and completing her MSc Veterinary Education with the Royal Veterinary College in 2021.
BVNA Senior Vice President, Lyndsay Hughes commented: “Charlotte’s appointment marks an exciting step forward for BVNA. Having worked closely with Charlotte during my Presidential term, I have seen first-hand how naturally her role has evolved into carrying out this vital policy and public affairs work. Her commitment, insight and passion for advancing the veterinary nursing profession shine through in everything she does. Formalising this position not only reflects Charlotte’s strengths but also opens up valuable opportunities for BVNA to strengthen our influence, expand our lobbying opportunities, and ensure veterinary nurses are represented fully and effectively. I am confident Charlotte will continue to be a powerful advocate for our members and for the future of our profession.”
BVNA Chief Executive, Huw Jones added: “We are delighted that Charlotte has agreed to move into this new role. This appointment recognises the incredible work Charlotte has delivered at a high level over the past 12 months particularly within BVNA’s engagement with the CMA and Defra, positioning the BVNA as a key player in the future of the veterinary profession. It reinforces that policy and public affairs are a vital part of the growth and progression of BVNA as a strong voice for the veterinary nursing profession.”
Charlotte Bullard commented: “Veterinary nurses fully deserve to be heard, understood and respected. BVNA has been consistently representing and standing up for veterinary nurses at every possible opportunity for the past 60 years, and this is a mission I am extremely proud to champion. It is therefore an enormous privilege to be stepping into this new role, especially at a time when there is the prospect of real positive change for the veterinary nursing profession on the horizon. I am looking forward to continuing to work alongside colleagues and the dedicated veterinary nurses making up BVNA Council, to amplify our presence and evidence-led policy in order to provide the best possible representation for our members and the wider profession.”
