“The British Veterinary LGBT+ Society was established in 2016 to build a community of LGBT+ Veterinary Professionals, Students and Allies. Our community provides a network and safe space for LGBT+ individuals to find support and friendship. We are actively working with veterinary committees and professional bodies to promote acceptance and ensuring working environments are free from discrimination. We have hundreds of members across the UK working in clinical practice, academia and related industries.
The BVLGBT+ Society hopes that we can encourage those to undertake a career in nursing who may not have thought there was a place for them before. We want to show that nursing is an open career for everyone. In the past, nursing has a perception that it is a primarily ‘female fronted’ career but it truly should be, and is, for all.
We hope that all genders and sexualities will feel confident and comfortable in their role within the nursing industry, whether you are newly qualified, training or an established nurse.
The BVLGBT+ Society celebrates all individuals and believes that there is a place for everyone within the veterinary profession and community.
As the BVLGBT+ Nurse Representative, it is my hope and dream to see the profession move forward in a multi-dimensional way, where we celebrate each other and move nursing in to the future.
We are proud to be working closely with BVNA to provide support, information and a safe space to all nurses, no matter your background.”
