BEVA has introduced a Nurse Committee to guide BEVA on issues that are important to veterinary nurses working in equine practice. The committee, which currently comprises nine members and is chaired by Marie Rippingale REVN, will ensure BEVA gains a nursing perspective on all equine veterinary issues.

“I am delighted that BEVA has put together an Equine Nurses Committee and given equine nurses a voice,” said Marie Rippingale. “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to identify and address current issues, as well as to establish a clear path to push this profession forwards. As a committee we are excited to get out and speak to other equine nurses and use the feedback to inform our focus and direction. We are delighted to be collaborating with the BVNA. We feel that by working together, BEVA and BVNA can reach more nurses, and be more effective at addressing the issues that nurses are currently facing in equine practice.

The BEVA Nurses Committee will be represented during BVNA Congress 2022, and BVNA are pleased to support this important development for equine veterinary nurses. Alex Taylor, BVNA President, says: “We think it is important the recognise and appreciate all veterinary nurses, so we are very excited to be working more closely with BEVA. We are looking forward to identifying more ways we can support and champion our equine veterinary nurse members, who play an integral part within the equine veterinary team and the care of horses and other equids.”

How to get involved

Ahead of BEVA joining us for BVNA Congress, BVNA will be hosting an online Q&A panel discussion with the BEVA Nurses Committee, on Wednesday 21st September at 7.30pm. This session will provide attendees with an insight into the aims of the Committee, plus give more information about how you can get involved at BVNA Congress and what will be done with your feedback.

Please register for this session here: www.bvna.org.uk/events

The BEVA Nurse Committee will then be available during two sessions at BVNA Congress, both on Friday 7th October:

  • Introduction and Q&A session

9.30am – 10.15am in ‘The Hub’ (Exhibition)

  • Workshop: Progression of the equine veterinary nursing role

1.15pm – 2.15pm in Ludlow 2 (‘Nursing the equine patient’ stream)

These sessions will seek to identify the main issues facing equine veterinary nurses in practice. A greater understanding of these issues will help to formulate strategic approaches to addressing these problems, in order to develop and push the profession forwards. The workshop will be an interactive session comprising tasks, group work, and group discussion.

Don’t forget that alongside these sessions supported by BEVA, there is lots more on offer for equine nurses during this year’s BVNA Congress. Our ‘Nursing the equine patient’ stream spans two days – plus there are many more sessions on topics such as leadership, resilience and wellbeing.
